10 Feb 2008 Sky Diving – The Jumps

All excited – I got on the flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on Friday.
Was met by Sourin, Narottam and Harnish at the airport and we were
off to Deesa.
Met up with a few more trainees in Deesa – mostly from the army.
Nothing much to say about that night – don’t remember much of what
happened as it was all wiped out by the experiences next day.

Got up early morning – had breakfast – and went to to the Deesa
airfield (with a slight detour as we lost the way and reached a dam
instead).

After a lot of effort in getting more people to participate – I finally went alone for the sky-diving training this weekend. Though initially I was struck by the unprofessional approach to the arrangements made – I later realised this was due to the fact that this was a small outfit and the participants expected were only 6-10. However the initial disappointment converted to amazement and excitement – our instructor were amazing – they knew their jobs as well as made us totally confident about actually jumping from the plane.

They taught us the basics of the parachute – explained each and every thing patiently – and more importantly gave us the confidence in our equipment required to jump. They explained the safety features, the controls, everything we needed for the first jump. Now I’m really excited about the jump and waiting eagerly for the weekend to come.

Native Place – The home away from home

I had enrolled for the 5 day course for paragliding through flynirvana.com – I was excited and a bit apprehensive as to what lay ahead. I had planned on going for the course with a few friends – but they were not able to join because of work pressures. So off I went to “Native Place” all on my own – not knowing what lay ahead. I had planned on joining the course on Friday afternoon – which would have given me 3 days during the first weekend and 2 on the next.

Day 1

The start of the journey went from bad to worse – first I didn’t wake up in time – got stuck in the rush hour on the local trains and then had to wait for almost an hour in Dadar for the bus. Next the bus driver forgot to stop at Lonavala and went on the expressway towards Pune. Luckily I asked the conductor how much time it would take and he realised his mistake – but there was no way he could turn back on the expressway – luckily though after some time we saw a bus from the same company coming from Pune and he stopped so that I could change buses and head back to Lonavala. But this was not the end of the bad luck – I had to wait another hour for the train to Kamshet and then pay through the nose for an auto to take me to the “Native Place”. ( Of course later I realised all this was because I had not planned the trip properly and could have reached without all the hassles)
